Not the Best, Anymore

We noticed this several years ago. What a shame. (Hat tip to Glenn for noting this.)

Or am I wrong about this?

I don't think you're wrong. It is a shame. We had the older edition for our children and they read it and loved it until the book fell apart. Then we bought one for our grandson. We immediately noticed the changes, and I'm disappointed by them. To use an example from the linked post, is it no longer politically correct to suggest that parents should hold the authority in the home and that children should obey them promptly? Or are children now in charge of getting themselves to meals if and when they feel like it?

I don't know if Richard Scarry is still alive, but I doubt that these are changes he would have made. I think it's the publisher updating them to make them more politically acceptable.

Yes, I think you're right, Carol. I liked the "promptly" version better, too.

Even so, our son does not seem to notice what he's missing, and one of his Richard Scarry books has been so rifled through so often that it is beginning to lose its binding--a well loved book for sure!
