Law Firms and Starbucks

Carol sent this to me. I think the difference is that there is no guild controllong the delivery of coffee but there is one controlling the delivery of legal servies. This doesn't necessarily mean that the lawyers' guild should be broken open, but it certainly suggests an inquiry into that matter.

it may suggest that there is room in the market for value based fees, rather than time based fees.

Absolutely right, Macon. When I started the practice, that's how fees were set in my firm. It was often a struggle for the lawyers and the clients to come to terms with just how valuable the work was, but I think the struggle was good for all concerned. There is a movement to go back to that approach. We would like to do so at our firm.
