This article notes that a Long Island animal shelter is embedding chips in its animals when they are adopted. This looks like a privacy issue to me - not for the animal, of course, but for the family. It's a Brave New World.
Ace is chipped. If he is lost, a shelter or vet can scan his chip and find our names and address. Our address is also on his tag, but a chip can't be lost accidentally!
He's also a rescue dog, and DFW Lab Rescue insists on the chip and inserts it as a part of the adoption process.
